After leaving his position at the United States Department of Justice, where he supervised the defense of all medical malpractice litigation against the United States government, Walter Oleniewski has personally represented many hundreds of families in medical malpractice cases arising out of medical care at United States government hospitals and medical facilities worldwide.

After graduating from The Catholic University of America Law School and entering on active duty in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the US Army, he received a fellowship in forensic medicine at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology/Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he studied medicine and obtained a Master's Degree in Forensic Science from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He completed his active military service as assistant chief of general claims at the United States Army Claims Service.
He then spent nine years at the United States Department of Justice, initially serving as a trial attorney, defending medical malpractice litigation against the United States, eventually being appointed as the supervisor of all medical malpractice litigation involving the United States and its employees. During his tenure at the Department of Justice, he obtained extensive nationwide trial and appellate experience in federal courts, was an instructor in the Department of Justice training program and developed a series of annual medical malpractice training programs for federal government legal personnel, and authored the Department's guidelines on the statute of limitations issues under the Federal Tort Claims Act.
Since 1982 he has been in private practice devoting his energies to representing individuals and families injured by medical malpractice/negligence in military and VA hospitals worldwide. He has obtained many million-dollar settlements and judgments, and is a member of the Million-Dollar Advocates Forum.
